In 1995, Roger Kratochvil, after 34 years in Education as a Teacher, Coach, and Principal at Mt. Olive High School, contacted Superintendent of Schools, Art McCormick and School Board Member Mike Favre about forming an academic foundation. All were in favor of this project, and Mike Favre generously provided funds for the start up of the foundation. Mr. McCormick provided samples from districts he had served in the past, and much information was gained through discussions with members of the Gillespie, Carlinville and Litchfield foundations regarding the Articles of Incorporation and 501c3 tax exempt status. Scharf Law firm of Litchfield generously provided their services in getting all the legal forms filed and continue to do so today.
Members of the first Board gathered for a meeting, which included, Roger Kratochvil, Mary Kratochvil, Vern Knop, Ray Viehweg, Sharon Hagerman, Shelly Becker, Marilyn Brunnworth, Alan Zippay, Dave Weidler, Linda Hasquin, Dave Kernich, and Vern Droste. Because of his strong interest in helping the students, Roger Kratochvil was elected the first President of the Mt. Olive Academic Foundation. Other officers included Vern Knop, Vice President, Mary Kratochvil, Secretary and Ray Viehweg, Treasurer.
Since 1996, the foundation has been able to award more than $1,000,000 in grants to our school district for equipment, school supplies, field trips, assemblies, and special projects. These grants are made possible through generous donations from alumni, businesses, individuals and memorials.
